SUMMARY:Mixed Media Junk Journals (Art Class for Teens)
DESCRIPTION:Students will create a one-of-a-kind junk journal filled with layered\, textured pages made through gelli plate printmaking. Using acrylic paint\, texture tools\, natural materials\, found objects\, stencils\, and experimental layering\, students will explore how texture\, color\, and repetition can communicate emotion and meaning. After building a collection of printed pages\, students will transform their work into a handmade bound journal. This journal will be intentionally designed and can serve as a space for poetry\, sketching\, reflection\, memory keeping\, gratitude\, travel documentation\, emotional expression\, or open-ended creative exploration. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOREggie Jovaisa is Art educator and practicing visual artist with 20+ years of experience across early childhood\, K 8 education\, and community-based settings. My work bridges intuitive\, process-driven artmaking with a strong foundation in art fundamentals and the National Core Arts Standards\, creating inclusive\, culturally responsive learning environments. I design art experiences that support creative voice\, technical growth\, mindfulness\, and meaningful community connection. All classes are held in the train station studio classroom. Do not attend if you feel sick. Please review our Registration and Payment Policy page before signing up. Email classes@windsorartcenter.org for more information. THE CHARLES F. BENDZANS SCHOLARSHIP FUNDThe Charles F. Bendzans Scholarship Fund gives students and artists from all backgrounds a chance to take Windsor Art Center classes at a discounted rate. If you need financial support and would like to apply for this scholarship\, please email Michelle at classes@windsorartcenter.org Charles F. Bendzans grew up in Windsor\, was awarded fine arts degrees from The University of Connecticut and Michigan's Cranbrook Academy of Art\, and then went on to become a nationally recognized artist. While oil painting was his passion\, he loved all forms of visual art\, from printmaking to photography to jewelry design and everything in between. Although he moved to Louisiana as a young man\, Charles continued to keep a close watch on what was happening in Windsor\, and never passed up an opportunity to brag about his beloved hometown (and UCONN Huskies). He considered Windsor Art Center to be an extraordinarily fantastic asset to the town. Throughout his adult life and until his death in 2019\, Charles was also committed to teaching and mentoring others\; he felt an obligation to help other artists become they very best that they could be. It is hoped that his mentoring will continue in part through The Charles F. Bendzans Scholarship Fund.
