SUMMARY:Windsor Freedom Trail Food Drive to Benefit Windsor Food Bank
DESCRIPTION:Windsor Freedom Trail FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT THE WINDSOR FOOD BANK ON JULY 11TH!The Windsor Freedom Trail Committee is hosting a Food Drive to support the Windsor Food Bank as it supports the community's needs at a critical time of the year. It will be held on Saturday\, July 11\, 2026\, from 10:00am 2:00pm. at Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church\, 320 Hayden Station Road\, Windsor\, CT. . \nFood donations during the summer months are typically lower than the amount of donations that are given during the fall and winter holiday seasons\, but the need for assistance from the Food Bank remains steady and for some families\, the need increases while kids are out of school. For example\, kids that are in summer camps may need to bring their own lunches and snacks. Also\, the Weekend Wheels Student Food Program\, a supplemental food program that provides eligible Windsor kids from pre-k through 12th grade with a bag of food for the weekend only runs during the school year from September June\, therefore the Food Bank provides an additional food distribution for eligible families during summer months when the program is inactive.Additionally\, the Community Renewal Team (CRT) and Generation Power CT Energy Program\, which provide assistance with electric\, gas\, and water bills\, are closed from May August. While the Town of Windsor Social Services Department continues to offer utility support for residents in need\, the temporary closure of these additional resources means individuals have fewer options for assistance during the summer months. As a result\, eligible families may face the difficult choice between paying higher utility bills and purchasing groceries. During these challenging circumstances\, the Windsor Food Bank serves as a valuable resource. Please consider supporting this Food Drive initiative by dropping off non-perishable\, unexpired food donations during the 10:00am 2:00pm timeframe on July 11th at the church (address listed above) to benefit the Windsor Food Bank. These donations will be very much appreciated. Most needed items include the following but other items are also welcomed: peanut butter\, jelly\, canned soups\, ramen noodles\, canned or cartons of broth\, macaroni and cheese\, canned meats\, cereal (cold and hot)\, baked beans\, canned vegetables (corn\, mixed vegetables\, peas\, potatoes\, yams\, beets\, green beans\, etc.)\, canned beans (kidney\, garbanzo\, white\, black\, pinto\, etc.)\, rice (box or bag)\, pasta\, sauces\, canned fruit (or fruit/pudding cups)\, fruit juice\, condiments (ketchup\, mustard\, mayonnaise\, etc.)\, mashed potato flakes (box or package)\, stuffing (bag or box)\, hamburger/tuna helpers (box)\, baking items (corn muffin mix\, cakes\, brownies\, oil\, etc.) coffee\, tea\, hot chocolate\, snacks. For questions\, please contact the Windsor Freedom Trail Committee at windsorfreedomtrailct@gmail.com.
