Plant Power (June 29- July 3): Explore the secret world of plants! Hike around the Park’s forests, meadows, and wetlands to observe how plants grow, change throughout the year, and reproduce. Take on the roles of pollinators to learn about why they’re important, then watch our hardworking honeybees in action in the Sensory Garden! Dig deep to learn about compost and soil, develop your green thumb with a visit to our Organic Garden, and unlock the mysteries of seeds. One, two, three, grow!

Survival Skills (July 6-10): Embark on a wilderness adventure within Northwest Park! Practice locating natural sources of water, building a shelter, and navigating through the woods with only a compass and a map. Learn which wild plants have been traditionally used for food or medicine, and tell time by the position of the sun at our sundial. By the end of the week, you’ll be a true survivalist, equipped with all the skills you need to make it in the great outdoors!

H2Whoa (July 13-17): Get ready to dive into the wonderful world of water! From acting out the basics of the water cycle to developing ways to filter drinking water, get hands-on experience with the most valuable resource on our planet. Watch erosion in real time, prevent water pollution with our watershed model, and test the properties of water with tools used by real hydrologists, like pH strips and salinity meters. Best of all, play water-themed games to beat the heat!

Farmapalooza (July 20-24): Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Northwest Park’s Animal Barn, exploring the world of agriculture with our heritage breed animals, including sheep, cows, rabbits, turkeys, ducks, chickens, a donkey, and a mule! Learn about why farm animals look and act different from their wild counterparts, what makes heritage breeds special, and the ins and outs of animal husbandry from our experienced Animal Care Specialist. Investigate each species individually to observe their traits, care needs, and personalities. Fans of Cisco, this one’s for you!

Earth Explorers (July 27-31): Get to know our planet! Hike through the network of habitats found within Northwest Park to discover the properties and resources that make them unique. Practice conservation techniques needed to preserve our native plants and animals, such as the removal of non-native species. Witness nature reclaim the former parking lot of West Field in a process called succession, learn about the geologic processes happening under our feet, and step into our Starlab to see the astronomical world above. It’s a wild world out there!

Creature Feature (August 3-7): Squawk, howl, or hiss your way to Northwest Park for a week celebrating all things animal! Explore the diets, homes, and behaviors of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish by examining animal artifacts, learning how to respectfully observe animals in the wild, and play animal-themed games. Meet live birds of prey with a visit from Wing Masters, followed by a demonstration from Riverside Reptiles, and finish the week with our fan-favorite Animal Olympics!
