Free Outdoor Concert with Dynamic Singer Nekita Waller

Concertgoers at the Thursday, August 22nd Windsor Concert on the Green are encouraged to bring nonperishable food to be donated to the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank and the Windsor Pet Food Pantry at the Windsor Animal Shelter.

On that day, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Connecticut’s dynamic Nekita Waller will perform on the Windsor Town Hall lawn on Broad St. as part of weekly free concert series presented by First Town Downtown. 

(Rain date is the Tuesday after). 

The August 22nd community food drive for people and pets is coordinated by Joyce and Dick Armstrong of Windsor, who also are one of the concert’s sponsors. “Windsor residents continue to step forward to support one another, especially those who are in need of assistance with food or energy,” explains Joyce Armstrong, a member of the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank’s volunteer-run Board. “Dick and I believe that if we make it really easy for people to bring food items to a free concert, then many of our neighbors will help.” The August 22nd concert is co-sponsored by the Joyce and Dick Armstrong, the Windsor Historical Society, and Al and Debbie Loomer. “People can bring lawn chairs or blankets, and we hope that the attendance will be large…and generous,” says Dick Armstrong, Joyce’s husband. “Volunteers will be on hand at tables near the stage to accept donations of items and funds for these organizations.” 

The Windsor Food & Fuel Bank’s most needed items include peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti sauce & pasta, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, crackers, cereal, baked beans, canned vegetables, canned fruit, fruit juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. The nonprofit organization also seeks personal care items such as paper towels, facial tissues, toilet paper, diapers, and baby wipes. Dry and wet cat/dog food, and cat/dog treats are also welcome. 

Nekita Waller’s debut was as a teen at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Her live music repertoire includes pop, Motown, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Tower to Power, Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, Classic Rock, R&B, Pop, Gospel, Country, and originals. Connecticut’s State Troubadour from 2018-2021, the Middletown resident sings the National Anthem for NBA, WNBA and DIV I College sports teams.
