Level 1 - Beginner, 6:00-7:15pm

Level 2 - Intermediate / Advanced, 7:30-8:45pm

 LEVEL 1  

Designed for beginner guitarists who are ready to move beyond the basics, this workshop  focuses on building confidence, improving technique, and developing the skills needed to  become a well-rounded player. Students will strengthen chord transitions, improve rhythm and  strumming, learn new songs, and begin exploring scales, lead playing, and basic music theory in  a supportive group setting.  

Prerequisites 

Students should be comfortable with the fundamentals of playing guitar, including:  

  • Playing several basic open chords (such as G, C, D, Em, Am, and E) • Switching between chords at a moderate pace 
  • Playing basic strumming patterns while keeping a steady beat 
  • Performing a few complete songs using open chords 
  • Tuning their guitar independently (or with an electronic tuner) 
  • A desire to continue learning and practicing regularly  

 

LEVEL 2  

This workshop is designed for guitarists who have a solid foundation and are ready to expand  their musical skills. Students will develop greater fretboard knowledge, improve lead and rhythm  playing, and strengthen improvisation. We will explore more advanced techniques like: scales,  chord voicings, fingerpicking, instrumental arrangements, and how to accompany a singer.  

Prerequisites 

Students should be comfortable with the following:  

  • Playing a wide variety of open chords confidently 
  • Basic understanding of major and minor scales 
  • Experience with pentatonic scales 
  • Introduction to barre chords and the ability to play a few comfortably • Basic lead guitar and melody playing 
  • Some experience improvising over simple chord progressions 
  • Comfortable learning songs by chord charts or tablature

MORE ABOUT ZAK

Zak Trojano graduated from Skidmore College in 2002 with a BS in music. Since then, he’s been teaching, writing, recording, and touring. Zak works as a solo artist and with: Chris Smither, Jeffrey Foucault, Peter Mulvey, Kris Delmhorst, and many others. He was the guitar and piano instructor at Greenfield Community College from 2019 - 2024, and is a member of the faculty at the Prindle School in Florence, MA. He comes from a family of teachers and musicians, and thoroughly enjoys passing along what he’s learned to anyone who is interested.
