Friday, July 26, 2024

Description

What better way to spend summer vacation than learning to write your own poetry! Participants will learn by doing as Connecticut Poet Laureate Antoinette Brim-Bell makes creating poetry a fun and inspiring learning experience. Join family and friends on Friday, July 26, as Connecticut’s top poet comes to Windsor Historical Society to blend poetry with history for two engaging interactive programs – one for children and families, and one for educators.

9:30-11:30AM – Who Tells the Story: Understanding History Through Poetry. “Doing poetry” is something that everyone can do and enjoy! Children aged 9 and up and adults will craft poetry with words inspired by historical objects and places. Intergenerational family groups encouraged! Advanced registration required. $10 per participant, $5 per additional participant.

1:00-3:00PM – Teaching with Poetry: Incorporating Poetry into Your Curriculum. Teachers of all disciplines will enjoy this engaging, hands-on professional development opportunity to integrate poetry (and history) into their lessons. Open to all educators – public, private, and home-educating parents. Classroom materials provided. Advanced registration required. $25 per participant.
