Winter Weekend at Northwest Park (February 4, 2023- February 5, 2023)Get the family out of the house and into nature this winter! Northwest Park is offering a number of programs on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5 for community members to enjoy the outdoors. See below for programs and descriptions. Preregistration required for some programs.

Nature Center Open House (Saturday, February 4. 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM)
Come out of the cold and into to the Nature Center to spend some time with our environmental educators who will be interpreting artifacts such as pelts, skulls and our Nature Center exhibits. Learn more about local wildlife and what happens to life in a pond during winter. Meet our resident animal ambassadors and play an ice fishing game as we cure our winter boredom. Free and open to all ages.
Guided Family Hike (Saturday, February 4. 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM)
Gather the family and join Northwest Park educators for a guided hike along the Brookside Trail. This 1.25 mile easy-paced hike will be a great way to get outdoors and discover tracks and traces of wildlife along the way. We’ll discuss winter habitats and look for details in nature with a color scavenger hunt for our young explorers. Ages 5+. No strollers or dogs, please. $5 per person Windsor Residents. $7 per person Nonresidents.
Coffeehouse Concert- The Hot Flashes (Saturday, February 4. 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM)The Hot Flashes are an exciting and eclectic group fronted by three female vocalists who have made a name for themselves on the New England music scene. The Flashes are Amy Gallatin, who with her expressive soulful singing has made a name for herself both in North America and overseas, award-winning singer-songwriter/guitarist Gail Wade, and multi-instrumentalist Peggy Harvey. Backed by the solid chops of mandolinist JD Williams, Dobro veteran Roger Williams and bassist John Urbanik, the instrumentation also includes the occasional clawhammer banjo. As a group these six veteran musicians meld their collective experiences, voices and instruments into a unique and rousing musical experience. $20.00 General Admission; $18.00 Friends of Northwest Park Members. Join nature writer Katherine Hauswirth on Sunday, February 5, 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, for a slide presentation: A Book of Days: Nature Lovers, Their Journals, and Phenology. She will also read from her new book The Morning Light, the Lily White: Daily Dips into Nature and Spirit. The New England-based book has an entry for each day of the year, giving readers an opportunity to pay attention to the natural world, contemplating the enrichment and meaning to be found in all the wondrous creatures and happenings around us. Signed copies will be available. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Park. $10 Windsor Residents; $12 Nonresidents.
February Full Moon Snowshoe Hike (Sunday, February 5. 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM)
Come out to Northwest Park for a guided Full Moon Hike on Sunday, February 5 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This moon is known as the “Full Snow Moon” because the heaviest snow usually falls during this time of year. If snow conditions permit, bring your own snow shoes or borrow ours. Fee for this program is $12 person (Windsor resident) $16 per person (non-residents). Participants must preregister; space is limited.
